Today is the first part of a three-part series: The Mindset Check Series. Sometimes, people tell me: "Nathalie, I am going through a lot of stuff. There's so much pressure at work, there's external pressure, there's my internal stress... I think it's affecting my health, but I'm not sure. It seems like everybody's always busy anyways. Is this the new normal? How do I know if it's too much?" How much pressure is too much pressure? Keep reading or watch the video below for more...
I'd like to offer you some questions to find out if you have too much pressure and stress in your life. Today's first part of the series is all about external pressure. It's about everything that's happening to us.
1. How Do You Finish Your Day?
Do you finish your day not having even checked one thing from your to-do list? At the end of the day, do you look at your to-do list and you haven't even started it yet? You've been stressed all day, going crazy, running around, rushing everywhere, and you haven't even done one thing that you actually wanted to do. That's the first question you can ask yourself.
2. Are You Choosing or Responding?
Yes, we're busy, but are you choosing what you're doing, or are you just extinguishing fires all day? The tasks that you're getting done, are they always about extinguishing fires, or are you able to look at your to-do list and choose a task and execute it? Are you responding all the time or are you choosing to spend your time the way you want to spend it?
3. How Often Do You Work?
Are you 24/7 invested in your work? Do you work on weekends? Do you work in the evenings, even when you are not supposed to be on the clock? How often do you take some time off? I am not talking about having a holiday down south for the week, although if you do, do you bring your laptop with you? Are you really disconnected? Sometimes, you're not working, you are with your kids at their basketball game, but all you can think about is the stress and the external pressure that you have from work?
Ask yourself these three questions and that will put you on the path to knowing if you are under too much pressure.
Next week in part two, we're going to be looking into how to know if you are under too much stress, and the final part will be all about a physical check: How to know if stress is impacting your health. I will see you there!
