What do you do when something lights up the dashboard of your car? When a engine light comes on, you bring your car to the garage, right? Or, if you're able to, you fix it yourself, because some of you may be very mechanically talented. Either way, you fix it as soon as possible, because you know this light turning on means your car is not safe anymore and you need to do something about it. Now, why am I talking about this? How is that connected to confidence, or, as a matter of fact, how is it connected to Valentine's Day coming up? Watch the following video or keep reading for more...

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I thought the theme of today's blog could be self-love. Let's talk about how we react when an engine light comes on on ourselves. When we start panicking, for example, or when that's our engine light, or if we start feeling sore physically.

I see a lot of people treating their vehicle a lot better than they treat themselves. How crazy! I live in a busy area and we have lots of neighbors. One of my neighbors washes his car all the time. I see him in the alley and we chat when we can. He keeps telling me: "Oh, you go to the gym. You and Duff are so inspiring. I don't have time for this." Yet, there he is, spending his weekend afternoons washing his truck! Still, he doesn't have time to be healthy and to go to the gym and to take care of himself. There's a disconnect here.

What happens when an engine light comes on in your car? What do you do? Do you cover the blinking light with duct tape? Of course not, you do something about it, but that's exactly what we do when we have little aches and pains: we put duct tape on it. What I mean is we pop an Advil or a Tylenol and we say: "Oh, it's fine. I have a sore calf, a sore back or a sore wrist." Instead of getting it fixed or going to see a physiotherapist or a chiropractor or a massage therapist or doing something about it, we tolerate it. We put duct tape on our own body and we don't take care of ourselves.

Now, the whole reason behind this blog today was because I'm personally guilty of this. I've had a sore calf and hamstring for about two months now. I'm fit. I teach fitness classes. I feel like I take good care of my health, and yet, I'm guilty of not having gotten that checked out. After two months, if it's still sore, it's not just because you did too many squats, it's because there's something wrong. Today, I actually went for a massage and my miraculous massage therapist, Naine, worked some magic on my body. Naine is Thai, so she offers Thai massages. Have I mentioned she works miracles? Plus, she works at two different places! Check out the ending of the blog for her info... Let me tell you, it was excruciating for the first 15 minutes when she got right into the sciatica, and then it started feeling better and better and better, and now it's fixed!

Now, I'm thinking: "I waited two months to do that. This is wrong. I need to practice a lot more self-love. I need to take care of myself." Our body is a lot more important than our vehicle, so let's start treating ourself with the love that we deserve. The same thing goes for the way we eat. A lot of people fill their car up with Supreme gas, but don't fuel their body the way it should be fueled.

Hopefully, I inspired you to do one thing this week to take care of yourself and practice self-love. When a light comes on on the dashboard of your life, do something about it. This also goes for your mind. When there's a problem or there's something that keeps you from sleeping, do something about it, talk to somebody. Go have this conversation that needs to be had or hire a professional to help fix the problem.

Happy Valentine's Day everybody, and I will see you next week!
