As you know, I travel a lot, and every hotel room is different. And I have a thing for lamps. Apparently, every lamp is different too!
Watch the video or continue reading.

So, I’m in this hotel room, and there’s no button to be found on the lamp. I’m looking everywhere. It takes me about 20 minutes to try to figure it out.

I look at the base. Nothing.

So now I’m following the cable. There’s a little cable coming out of the lamp, so I follow it all the way to the connection. Nope. That’s not it either.

Eventually, I move the big chair sitting in front of the lamp. And that’s when I realize there’s another cord on the floor with a little button on it.

That’s it!

All I have to do is step on the button to turn on the lamp.

Sometimes, it takes a while before you figure something out, but eventually, you do. You always figure it out.

This is my third night at this hotel. On the first night, it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to turn on the lamp.

On the second night, I looked at it and thought, “Oh no, what was it again?”

It took me a few minutes, and then I remembered: “Oh yeah! There’s a cord on the floor.”

I stepped on the button. Light on.

By the third night? No problem. I walked into the room, stepped on the button, and the lamp was on.

It’s the same with technology—and with so many of the new things we face in our lives and businesses.

At first, something can feel complicated simply because we don’t know where the button is. We click around. We look everywhere. We get frustrated. We wonder why someone had to make it so difficult.

But then we figure it out.

The next time, it takes us a little less time.

And eventually, we don’t even have to think about it anymore.

Whether it’s a new piece of technology, a new system, a new process, or a new way of doing things, sometimes it’s simply a matter of learning where to click for the first time.

Once you’ve got it, you’ll get used to it.

And before you know it, something that once took you 20 minutes will become as easy as stepping on a button and turning on the light.
