My blog last week might have been quite useful for entrepreneurs that sometimes struggle a little bit with posting on social media. If you wonder when the best times to post are, on which days you should definitely post and on which days you may not need to, check out last week's blog HERE.
This week, I have a few stories that I want to share with you, and I'd like to see what you think about them. I'd love for you to tell me what you would have done if you were put in the same situations as I was. Did I do the right thing? What can we learn from this? Watch the following video or keep reading for more...
Honestly, everything that happened in the past few years has made us kind of paranoid sometimes. We're constantly making things up.
My first story just happened this week. I have a client that comes here every Wednesday morning at 6:00 AM for his coaching. He works in construction, and before we start our meeting, he always talks to his staff over the phone, going over what needs to be done and just generally checking in on them. So, at 6:00 AM on Wednesday morning, as usual, I open the door and stand in my doorway, his coffee in hand (I always make him a coffee), but he stays on the sidewalk.
He looks at me and says: "Nathalie, I'm not coming in. I just spoke with my staff, and one of them has all the symptoms of the virus, so I can't come in. I'm fine, I don't feel anything, but I need to go get tested." We canceled the session even though he was fine. I'm double vaccinated and he is too, and we could have worn masks, but to be completely honest, I didn't want him in my house! What I paranoiac or just being safe?
So here's my question to you: What would you have done? Would you have let them in? Would you have hosted the session anyway and just worn masks instead?
On to the next story. You know that I'm a speaker. I travel quite a bit. I had just came back from a speaking engagement, and I had been super careful. Even before the pandemic, I was that person who carried wipes with her and wiped everything off before using.
I came home at about 2:00 PM, and I had a fitness class to teach at 6:00 PM. I worked through, from 2:00 to 5:30, and I had to leave, but I had forgotten to eat and I thought: "I need to grab something to eat before my class." I opened the fridge. I was out of peanut butter bars. Those are the little bars that I love as a pre-workout snack. I thought: "Okay, I'm just going to grab a piece of cheese." We had had some company over and bought some, but we usually never eat cheese, but I was in a hurry, so I grabbed a big piece of cheese, ate that on my way, and taught my class.
Around the middle of my class, I was on the stage, leading the group, and all of a sudden, I felt my chest closing in on me. I couldn't breathe. Of course, my first thought was: "I have the virus. That's it." At that moment, I was in the middle of the class. What should I have done? Should I have told everyone to go home? Should I have canceled the class, right in the middle of it?
Now, we both know what it was. Right? I told you about the cheese. I never eat cheese. I was just having heartburn. I was fine! But of course, your mind goes there. What I did is I walked way at the back of the stage. I put on my mask and I didn't tell anyone, I continued the class, and then everybody left when it was done. I made sure to not go say bye close to anyone. I just waved at them from far away.
So I'm asking you: What do you think about these stories and do you have any similar stories? What do we do? There are so many things now that we have to think of... What do we do in order to stop our brain from spinning faster and faster and imagining the worst?
I'm a very positive person. If you've met me, you know. Of course, I'm going to say: "I'm going to be fine." But now, it's not just about me. We have responsibilities and we need to make sure that everybody around us is safe as well. So, I just want to hear your opinion on these stories. What do you think about them and what would you have done in my situation?
I'm looking forward to hearing back from you!
NOW MORE THAN EVER, THE WAY WE INTERACT WITH PEOPLE IS SO IMPORTANT.
Whether at work or at home, we need to be able to get along with everyone. People don't leave their job, they leave the co-worker they can't stand or the boss they don't respect.
People don't leave their marriage either! They leave the spouse that doesn't listen to them or that doesn't "GET" them! (or that buys too much toilet paper… LOL!)
