My mom used to tell me: « You can’t put your hand in a bucket of glue, without some of that glue sticking. » I think that she wanted me to stay away from the bad boys at school. LOL! I have always remembered this lesson. I have even heard it again, later on in life, while listening to Jack Canfield’s Success Principles audiobook. It makes me wonder: “What kind of Bucket do I put my hand into?”
Jim Rohn said: « You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with ». Wow! That is quite the statement. Looking at my life, I really want to make sure that these five people are increasing my average. What about you? When you study closely the people you spend the most time with? How do they make you feel? Are you looking up to them? Are you learning from them? Did you choose them to be in your life or were they imposed to you? How can you choose to spend more time with people who are having a good effect on you? It is your choice to be less available for people who are not serving you well.
The more you spend time with successful people, the more you hang out with kind and caring people, the more you become successful, kind and caring. Living with this lesson in mind, makes me evaluate the time I spend around people. It makes me aware that I am naturally attracted to certain people because they make me feel good. And it’s okay. It is a daily reminder that I do have a choice. It is even portrayed in the type of television shows I watch, the type of audio-books biographies I choose to listen to, specifically about people that succeeded in one way or another. It prompts me to email friends that have a good influence on me. It makes me want to hang out more with people I want to be like. I now politely decline invitations of ‘draining’ people who have the opposite effect on me.
Life is so short, there is no time to risk getting spoiled by negative energy. Make you spend time around people who have a good influence on you!
Do some clean up in your life. Set yourself up for success by spending time and energy putting your hand in the right type of bucket.
