I sure did. Tons of them.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 15px;\">A pet peeve is something that is particularly annoying; TO YOU. Guess what? Somehow, we have conditioned ourselves to be annoyed in certain situations. That\u2019s right. We caused the pet peeve! Watch the video or read the transcript below to learn more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of my biggest pet peeves was bad customer service. &nbsp;You know that situation when you go into a store planning to buy something, but instead of receiving any service, you\u2019re ignored? Even worse, sometimes the staff just stand around chatting with each other! &nbsp;I remember one time at a grocery store when I tried to get an employee\u2019s attention. \u00ab\u00a0Excuse me, excuse me&#8230;\u00a0\u00bb &nbsp; They just continued to chat. Eventually one turned around, clearly annoyed I had interrupted: \u00ab\u00a0Do you have dried cranberries?\u00a0\u00bb &nbsp;\u00ab\u00a0Yeah, aisle four.\u00a0\u00bb Then they went right back to their conversation. \u00ab\u00a0Excuse me. I&rsquo;ve already been to aisle four. I&rsquo;ve been twice already, but I can&rsquo;t find the dried cranberries. Could you point them out to me please?\u00a0\u00bb And then she looked at me and said: \u00ab\u00a0Oh yeah, it&rsquo;s by the chickpeas.\u00a0\u00bb &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"8257\" width=\"696\" data-init-width=\"2560\" height=\"464\" data-init-height=\"1707\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkyourself.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1-employees-chatting-in-a-store-1-scaled.jpeg?resize=696%2C464&#038;quality=89&#038;ssl=1\" data-width=\"696\" data-height=\"464\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"\">Sometimes there didn\u2019t even have to be anyone else to be around for me to get upset. He can&rsquo;t even go anywhere! Really? Or, on an airplane when a mom explains that her young child sitting right beside you \u00ab\u00a0just won&rsquo;t keep the headset on\u00a0\u00bb so everyone has to listen to Finding Nemo on repeat for the next 17 hours. Now come on! That would make anyone upset!!! &nbsp;Or would it? <\/p>\n<p><span><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"8262\" width=\"696\" data-init-width=\"2560\" height=\"367\" data-init-height=\"1350\" title=\"man watch the video\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkyourself.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/6-guy-in-a-subway-watching-phone-1-scaled.jpeg?resize=696%2C367&#038;quality=89&#038;ssl=1\" data-width=\"696\" data-height=\"367\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"\">Things like that used to drive me crazy, but not anymore. &nbsp;Why? Because one day, I realized it was all my own doing. No one else was actually causing me to feel that way. &nbsp;It was how I was choosing to respond. Besides, nobody felt sorry for me; especially not the drawer. &nbsp;And the other people? I didn\u2019t even know who they were. &nbsp;Several years ago, I decided to change my pet peeves into the past. To let them go. &nbsp;I&rsquo;m the one programming my personal assistant in my head. And so are you! &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"8263\" width=\"341\" data-init-width=\"1973\" height=\"442\" data-init-height=\"2560\" title=\"Waiter\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkyourself.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/personal-assistant-notepad-low-1-scaled.jpg?resize=341%2C442&#038;quality=89&#038;ssl=1\" data-width=\"341\" data-height=\"442\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"\">If your personal assistant hears: \u00ab\u00a0Oh, this is my biggest pet peeve\u00a0\u00bb then your personal assistant is going to write it down and make sure it happens again. &nbsp;Your personal assistant is going to repeat that emotional experience for you: \u201cso the next time somebody merges in front, I need to create frustrated and furious emotions. Got it. Check.\u00a0\u00bb Alternatively, knowing how careful we need to be when giving our personal assistant instructions \u2013 and everything we say inside our head is an instruction &#8211; we could respond to the same situation by saying: \u201cThis used to annoy me. In the past, I would have gotten very upset over this. Now I can just laugh at it.\u00a0\u00bb&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: Georgia, serif;\">You could even go one step further and tell your personal assistant that you\u2019re glad you are not in a rush because you planned ahead and gave yourself sufficient time to get to your destination (see my blog on creating positive habits).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: Georgia, serif;\">You&rsquo;re the one deciding how you feel. You can even instruct your personal assistant to generate gratitude or some other positive emotion. Imagine how great you\u2019d feel arriving at your destination if you implanted 3 or 4 positive responses along the way. &nbsp;We need to be very careful, and purposeful, about what we tell our personal assistant. &nbsp;You&rsquo;re the one deciding how you feel.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, do you have any pet peeve?
